Paraneoplastic necrotizing myopathy in association with metastatic malignant melanoma: two case reports and a review of the literature

Abstract: Necrotizing myopathy is a rare subtype of inflammatory myopathy characterized predominantly by muscle weakness without inflammation. While the association of malignancy and inflammatory myopathies such as dermatomyositis and polymyositis is well-recognized, necrotizing myopathy has rarely been reported in association with cancer and, to our knowledge, has not been previously reported in association with melanoma. We report two cases of necrotizing myopathy in association with metastatic malignant melanoma.
