Parameter of Nonlinearity for Liquids

Abstract: The ratio of B/A in the adiabatic expansion for pressure p as a function of the density ρ, p=po+A (ρ−ρo)/ρo+B (ρ−ρo)2/2ρo2 is reported for a number of organic liquids. A detailed comparison of these values, obtained from measurement of the sound velocity as a function of the hydrostatic pressure and the temperature, is made with measurements reported by other observers from finite amplitude measurements.
