Parameter estimation of an anisotropic damage model for concrete using genetic algorithms

Abstract: This article presents an anisotropic damage model for concrete that couples between elasticity and continuum damage mechanics. The formulation of constitutive model is based on the elastic strain energy in the framework of irreversible thermodynamics. The thermodynamic free energy is represented as a scalar function of elastic strain and damage tensors and used to derive the constitutive law and thermodynamic conjugate force of damage that is used to derive the dissipation potential. The damage evolution law i… Show more

“…Uniform Sensors 2020, 20, 1769 7 of 24 mutation means that the individual is replaced by a random individual in the value space. Based on the difference of average and best fitness value of the population (∆), the adaptive probabilities of crossover (P c ) and mutation (P m ) operators are used, where k 1 and k 2 are constants greater than zero [33,34]. The detailed parameters of improved genetic algorithm (IGA) are shown in Table 1.…”

“…Further, improved parameter within bounds was obtained using the interior-point algorithm (Christopher and Choudhary, 2018) by minimising the relative error between the model results and experimental data (Shahsavari et al, 2016;Wardeh and Toutanji, 2017). Apart from gradient based interior-point methodology, multiple objective optimisation technique using genetic algorithm has also been successfully developed for the evaluation of optimised material constants associated with damage-based models (Lin and Yang, 1999;Wardeh and Toutanji, 2017). Although the initial guess values could be avoided while executing the genetic algorithm, the optimisation technique is largely time consuming one.…”
