Este artigo avalia, comparativamente, a classificação dos municípios amapaenses com base no Índice de Desenvolvimento Humano (IDH) e no Índice de Bem-Estar Urbano (IBEU). Trata-se de uma pesquisa descritiva, baseada em dados quantitativos secundários, coletados por meio de levantamentos bibliográficos e documentais. Apesar de existir correlação entre os índices, a classificação dos municípios amapaenses não é necessariamente semelhante em cada um deles. Os resultados mostram diferenças significativas de classificação de desenvolvimento humano e bem-estar urbano. Aqui se conclui que o espaço urbano amapaense necessita de instrumentos, ferramentas e indicadores que melhorem relevantemente as condições de vida dos habitantes locais, especificamente a formulação e reformulação de estratégias de planejamento urbano e regional.
