Parallel DEVS and Process-Oriented Modeling in Modelica

Abstract: This manuscript presents a new free Modelica library, named DESLib and composed of four packages: RandomLib, DEVSLib, SIMANLib and ARENALib. DESLib has been designed and implemented to facilitate the description of discrete-event models using the Parallel DEVS formalism (using DEVSLib), and to facilitate the process-oriented modeling of logistic systems (using SIMANLib and ARENALib). SIMANLib and ARENALib models are designed as DEVS models, and implemented using DEVSLib, to facilitate its development, comprehe… Show more

“…In the process oriented DEVS formalism, "systems are described from the point of view of the entities that flow through them using the available resources" (Sanz, Urquia, and Dormido 2009). For assembly line models this means that it is possible to track and identify each manufactured item during its flow through the line.…”

“…To support modelling activities, some of these programs also integrate sophisticated 3D visualisation. There is also a Modelica library which can model discrete event simulation, since it adopts the Discrete EVents System (DEVS) formalism (Sanz, Urquia, and Dormido 2009;Sanz, Urquia, Cellier, et al 2012;DESLib 2023). It offers a rich but complex functionality.…”

“…DEVSLib is a Modelica package contained in the DESLib free library [34], developed by the authors. DEVSLib supports the Parallel DEVS formalism and is compatible with the rest of the Modelica libraries, allowing to compose hybrid multi-formalism models.…”

“…The new library constitutes a fully functional implementation that can be executed using Dymola without the requirement of any manual manipulation to the model or the generated code. ABMLib is freely distributed as a part of DESLib 9 (cf. http://www.euclides.dia.uned.es/).…”
