Paracoccus salsus sp. nov., a novel slightly halophilic bacterium isolated from saline lake sediment

Abstract: A Gram-stain-negative, non-motile, slightly halophilic and non-endospore-forming alphaproteobacterium, designated strain EGI L200073T, was isolated from saline lake sediment sampled in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, China. The taxonomic position of the isolate was determined using the polyphasic taxonomic analysis and phylogenomic analysis. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequence similarities indicated that strain EGI L200073T formed a distinct clade with … Show more

“… Paracoccus forms a group of Gram-negative, coccoid, ovoid or short-rod-shaped, non-spore-forming, and non-motile cells [2]. Currently, the genus Paracoccus comprises 76 recognized species with validly published names (LPSN, https://lpsn.dsmz.de/genus/paracoccus), including two relatively new additions: Paracoccus onubensis 1011MAR3C25 T [3] and Paracoccus salsus EGI L200073 T [4]. Members of Paracoccus are mostly isolated from environmental sources such as sludge [5], soil [6], and sediment [7], and some from animals [8] and plants [9].…”
