Para‐hydrogen induced polarization of Si‐29 NMR resonances as a potentially useful tool for analytical applications

Abstract: Para-hydrogen-induced polarization effects have been observed in the (29)Si NMR spectra of trimethylsilyl para-hydrogenated molecules. The high signal enhancements and the long T(1) values observed for the (29)Si hyperpolarized resonances point toward the possibility of using (29)Si for hyperpolarization applications. A method for the discrimination of multiple compounds and/or complex mixtures of hydroxylic compounds (such as steroids), consisting of the silylization of alcoholic functionalities with an unsat… Show more

“…Besides measuring the ratio of lactate to pyruvate, the change in signal can be measured over time and the data fit to kinetic models 136,137,90,138 . Several other metabolites and hyperpolarized nuclei (such as 29 Si, 6 Li, 89 Y) 139,140,141 are currently being tested for use due to their long T 1 relaxation times. Although hyperpolarized NMR based methods have a lot of potential, there are several constraints on its clinical application that need to be overcome.…”

“…T 1 values of more than 1min were determined. [136] 31 Ps ites typically have shorter T 1 times than those of 13 C and 15 Nnuclei, but they have high MR sensitivity because of the significantly higher gyromagnetic ratio of 31 Ps pins than that of 15 N, and feature ac onvenient 100 %n atural abundance.B urns et al examined the hyperpolarization of phosphate,p hosphine,a nd phosphonate derivatives and showed that MR measurement times can be reduced from 12 ht o about 1s . [137] These examples show the wide range of possibilities of MRI probes and applications of PHIP and demonstrate that research is still in progress.…”
