Panoramic lens designed with transformation optics

Abstract: The panoramic lens is a special kind of lens, which is applied to observe full view. In this letter, we theoretically present a panoramic lens (PL) using transformation optics method. The lens is designed with inhomogeneous and anisotropic constitutive parameters, which has the ability to gather light from all directions and confine light within the visual angle of observer. Simulation results validate our theoretical design.

“…To eliminate the discontinuous absorption, the multi-unit combination of the proposed MA to construct the continuous broadband absorption was also proposed. Different from the similar construction applied in meta-surfaces [ 38 ] and graded-index devices [ 39 ], the proposed combined MA can be seen as a simple way to overlap the adjacent absorption peaks to construct the continuous and highly effective broadband absorption in the spectrum. Here, it should be noted that the combination of multi-unit still followed the original duty radio to keep the originally lightweight characteristic.…”

“…TO is a strategy that can control the propagation of the electromagnetic wave due to the invariance of Maxwell’s equations under the coordinate transformation. It has motivated a series of researches 2 , such as cloaks 3 – 6 , illusion devices 7 , 8 , lenses 9 , 10 and antennas 11 . Besides, the concentrators 12 and rotators 13 , which can increase and rotate the EM energy in the inner region, have also attracted remarkable attention.…”

“…Transformation optics (TO) has now attracted many peoples’ interest due to the manipulation feature of the electromagnetic (EM) waves in a user-defined manner. Ever since the proposal reported in 1 , 2 , the TO concept has motivated a series of studies on other functional and conceptual devices 3 – 22 in the field of wave-guiding 3 – 8 and in the field of antennas and lenses such as: focusing devices 9 – 11 , directive antennas 12 – 14 , multi-beam 15 – 17 , and isotropic emissions 18 , 19 . Moreover, the techniques of source transformation 23 – 28 have opened new ways for the design of active devices with source distribution recessed in the transformed space.…”
