Pancreatic neuroendocrine tumours

Abstract: Conservative surgery of the pancreas is preferred, but aggressive surgery is indicated when the primary tumour can be controlled. Despite of minimising pancreatic resection, there is a high complication rate, mainly pancreatic fistulas, though they can often be conservatively managed. Insulinomas are the PNT with better outcome; those completely resected also associate a better prognosis.

“…Heterogeneity of the 16 retrospective studies was too high to pool all 22 studies, as depicted in Fig. 2 [29–44]. Overall PF rate grade B/C after tumor enucleation was 27 % (95 % CI 19–37 %), based on 8 studies with a total of 324 included patients [24, 25, 27, 28, 38, 40, 43] (see appendix Fig.…”

“…Duodenal wall gastrinomas are frequently small, occult, multiple, and very hard to locate [ 14 , 15 ]. Sporadic tumors occurring in the pancreas tend to be solitary, larger, and have greater malignant potential compared to duodenal gastrinomas [ 16 ].…”
