Pancreatic cancer accompanied by a moderate-sized pseudocyst with extrapancreatic growth

Abstract: BackgroundPancreatic cancer accompanied by a moderate-sized pseudocyst with extrapancreatic growth is extremely rare. Diagnosis of pancreatic cancer on preoperative imaging is difficult when the pancreatic parenchyma is compressed by a pseudocyst and becomes unclear. Despite advances in imaging techniques, accurate preoperative diagnosis of cystic lesions of the pancreas remains difficult. In this case, it was challenging to diagnose pancreatic cancer preoperatively as we could not accurately assess the pancre… Show more

“…Also, intrahepatic pancreatic pseudocysts have been reported as uncommon manifestations of pseudocysts [13]. Moreover, pancreatic cancer can be accompanied or masqueraded by a pseudocyst [14]. However, in the case reported herein, this was very unlikely because CT imaging was performed prior to chemoradiation and several times during systemic treatment and did not reveal any cystic lesions.…”

“…PD disruptions associated with pancreatic cancer and the need for therapeutic intervention are rare; only a few cases have been reported [8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15]. Given their infrequency, the effectiveness and safety of endoscopic treatments have not been su ciently investigated.…”

“…There have been several reports on PD disruption and PPC caused by pancreatic cancer [8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16]. When pancreatic cancer coexists, it is necessary to address not only PD disruption and the accompanying PPC/WON but also devise a therapeutic strategy for the pancreatic malignancy itself.…”

“…As the carcinoma grows, the pancreatic duct becomes obstructed from the high intraductal pressure, causing proximal dilatation and rarely pseudocyst formation. [ 9 , 10 ] Pseudocysts are usually unilocular and almost always located outside of the pancreas. [ 11 ] In our case, the pseudocyst was multilocular and located inside of the pancreas, accompanied by distal dilation of the MPD.…”
