Palyno‐morphological investigations of subtropical endangered flora of Capparidaceae through light and scanning electron microscopy

Abstract: The research was performed to investigate pollen morphology of endangered species of Capparidaceae in subtropical regions of Pakistan. The distinguishing characters were investigated by using light microscope and scanning electron microscope. Palynological study is comprised of pollen shape, pollen type, exine sculpturing, polar and equatorial diameter, length and width of colpi, mesocolpium, and exine thickness. In polar view, Cleome viscosa exhibited the highest pollen size 26.4 (32.7–24.5 μm) ±0.776 whereas… Show more

“…For SEM, the pollen grains were extracted from floral materials with ethanol, mounted on metallic stubs and sputter with coated gold- T A B L E 3 Quantitative pollen features of analyzed taxa (LM) Palladium with the help of double-sided adhesive tape. The photomicrographs of pollen were taken with scanning electron microscope (Model JEOL-5910) installed in the Department of Physics, University of Peshawar (Naz et al, 2019;Mir et al, 2019). Terminologies and descriptive sequence for the pollen grains were described from the Palynological glossaries of (Punt et al, 2007).…”

“…Morphology of pollen is of massive importance for the interpretation and documentation of relationship among different species at several different taxonomic levels (Khan et al, 2018). Palynologist investigated the significance of palynological features in different group of plants from time to time and inaugurate it highly effective in the process of identification of plant species (Ashfaq et al, 2020; Jamil Noor et al, 2016; Khan et al, 2018; Mir et al, 2019; Noor et al, 2017). Palynology of medicinally important plants has been carried out in Pakistan which inspected pollen morphology and medicinal properties of these plants (Qureshi et al, 2019).…”

“…In 1945 Williams and Hyde proposed the word “palynology” for the first time (Mir et al, 2019). Palynology assists in correct identification and classification of the problematic taxa at species and generic level, and also have vital role in other field of science like mellisoplaynology, aeropalynology, and pharmacopalynology (Gul et al, 2021; Khan et al, 2021).…”

“…Various palynological features such as pollen size, ornamentation, shape, aperture, and sculpturing are important for the correct identification of plants species (Salamma, Kailas, Naik, Rao, & Hari, 2019). Pollen fertility and sterility percentages give us helpful information regarding penitential hybrids (Mir et al, 2019). The pollen fertility data for any plant species is vital for commercial scaled growers and plant breeders (Rigamoto & Tyagi, 2002).…”
