Palm‐Print Pattern Matching Based on Features Using Rabin‐Karp for Person Identification

Abstract: Palm-print based individual identification is regarded as an effectual method for identifying persons with high confidence. Palm-print with larger inner surface of hand contains many features such as principle lines, ridges, minutiae points, singular points, and textures. Feature based pattern matching has faced the challenge that the spatial positional variations occur between the training and test samples. To perform effective palm-print features matching, Rabin-Karp Palm-Print Pattern Matching (RPPM) method… Show more

“…Kanchana and Balakrishnan [80] proposed a method of Rabin-Karp Palm-Print Pattern Matching (RPPM) to improve the matching accuracy of the palmprint features by using the double hash in RPPM. Ali et al [25] used a hybrid approach for palmprint identification, by using various algorithms such as local binary pattern (LBP), two-dimensional localized preserving projection (2DLPP) and the fusion of LBP + 2DLPP.…”

“…That previously mentioned research has determined which K-gram will be used but the explanation of the reasons for the selection of the k values has not been widely explained. Rabin Karp's algorithm can be used for image or pattern matching, such as fingerprint matching [16]. Rabin Karp also has better performance than other algorithms in the case of semantic-based documents [17] and requires shorter time [18].…”

“…2,3 Recent advances have led to biometric examination of people for identification, some of which rely on finger prints and palm prints can be used for the same. [4][5][6][7] Pattern of palm creases can give clues to underlying clinical conditions including dental conditions and chromosomal aberrations. [8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16] Palm prints also serve as surface markings to deeper structures in the hand.…”
