Palm Olein Lubricates and Removes Freshly Baked Concrete From Its Formwork

Abstract: Typical use of toxic and flammable petroleum-based mould oil for concrete manufacturing and its everincreasing price have prompted the search for a user-friendlier vegetable oil alternative. This study examines the potential use of a refined palm oil, i.e., palm olein for mould release lubrication. Its use eliminates additional steps required for structural modification and avoids food insecurity conflict due to its abundance and versatility. Blending palm olein (base oil) with a tackifier (specialty additive)… Show more

“…The physical and chemical effects are therefore combined (Fig. 7), as has been demonstrated in previous studies [21] and confirmed by the research of both Leon-Martinez et al [40] and Loh et al [43]. The film is thus more resistant and effective during the passage of concrete.…”

“…The viscosity values found in the literature lie between 0.02 Pa.s and 0.05 Pa.s [25,[39][40][41]. However, Hashin Mohseni's [42] and Loh's [43] research on vegetable oils (palm) demonstrated an improved mold release functionality due to its higher viscosity qualities.…”

“…The mechanism of complexation in the stripping reaction is shown in Eq. ( 10): Some studies recommended performing the stripping process stage by stage as another approach to improve stripping performance of the targeted solute [16,[36][37]. Therefore, two steps of the stripping process were carried out throughout this study, utilising the aforementioned optimum concentration of the stripping agent (1.0M), and the results are displayed in Table 3.…”

“…The number of unsaturated fatty acids and the length of the fatty acid chain both have an effect on the viscosity of palm oil. Numerous studies have been conducted to improve the properties of palm oil, although most of them have only looked at oil produced up to one fractionation technique, like palm olein and palm stearin (Loh and Muzzammil, 2022; Ojaomo et al , 2022). At a higher level of fractionation, many other types of palm oil are produced, including super olein (SO).…”
