Palladium–Poly(3‐aminoquinoline) Hollow‐Sphere Composite: Application in Sonogashira Coupling Reactions

Abstract: We report on the use of palladium acetate for the synthesis of a palladium‐based polymer composite material as a catalyst for Sonogashira cross‐coupling reactions for aryl and heteroaryl of iodides and bromides.

“…Irregular shaped, heterogeneous and micro-sized platelike structures were observed from this Figure. EDX analysis assigned the existence of copper, carbon, nitrogen and sulfur atoms on the surface of the product (Figure 3). This morphology is different from previous studies [6,7,9]. The thickness and the length of rods observed at Figure 4 were around 200-400 nm, 4-6µm, respectively.…”

“…AQ is a derivate compound of 3-aminoquinoline (3AQ) and 6-aminoquinoline (6AQ). The oxidation of 3AQ [6,7] and 6AQ [9] were accomplished by using palladium acetate and copper sulphate solutions in one step. In the each study, the composite materials composed of core (metal)-shell (polymer) hallows were obtained.…”

“…The two sharp IR adsorptions at 1491 and 1637 cm -1 were also associated with aromatic ring stretching. The peaks at 1637 cm -1 and 1474 cm -1 were assigned to the quinoid and benzenoid ring vibrations, respectively [27]. A peak at 1355 cm -1 was assignable to the C-N stretching vibration in quinoid imine units [26].…”

“…[4] A ‘core–shell’ type of structure with ‘polystyrene in the core’ and ‘palladium–polypyrrole nanocomposite as the shell’ has been employed for Suzuki and Heck cross‐coupling reactions in water . Polyaniline as well as its derivatives are conducting organic polymers and have also been demonstrated as supports for immobilizing palladium species for various carbon–carbon bond formation reactions [16, 5] . In our previous study we found that polymer‐encapsulated palladium nanoparticles served as an efficient catalyst for the Suzuki coupling reaction in the absence of phosphine ligand …”
