Paleoenvironmental and paleoclimatic conditions during the Eocene/Oligocene transition in the southern Hellenic Thrace Basin (Lemnos Island, North Aegean Sea)

Contrasting Styles of Salt‐Tectonic Processes in the Ionian Zone (Greece and Albania): Integrating Surface Geology, Subsurface Data, and Experimental Models

“…The Middle Jurassic succession (Toarcian to Kimmeridgian) shows important variations in thickness (from few meters up to 200-300 m) and sedimentary facies (Aubouin, 1958;Bernoulli & Renz, 1970;Bourli et al, 2019;IFP, 1966;Karakitsios, 1995;Nikolaou, 1988;Renz, 1955;Savoyat, 1977;Vakalas et al, 2023). “…Above this carbonate‐dominated sequence are the detritic successions of the “flysch”‐type units (Aubouin et al., 1977; Bellas et al., 1995; Fociro et al., 2023; Papanikolaou & Lekkas, 2008; Sotiropoulos et al., 2008; Triantaphyllou, 2013). Although some recent studies have suggested that the name of flysch should be only used based on sedimentological criteria (e.g., Botziolis et al., 2021; Kostopoulou et al., 2022), in the absence of proper observations of this type, we will collectively refer to these detritic sequences deposited in a deep‐water environment, as “flysch”‐type units. Three stratigraphic formations can be distinguished in the “flysch” units.…”
