Four excavations have been performed at the archaeological site of Cova Rosa (Asturias, Cantabrian Spain): three of them in the second half of last century and the other in this decade. Although little of the archaeological material found in those excavations has been published, here we attempt the stratigraphic correlation of sections revealed by the different excavations and we present 22 new radiocarbon dates for bones and marine shells, built in a Bayesian statistical model. This has enabled the documentation of occupations that mainly took place during the Last Glacial period, in the Solutrean (middle and upper phases) and Magdalenian (archaic, lower, and upper phases), and also in the early Holocene (Mesolithic). These occupations are compared with the record at other sites in Cantabrian Spain in general and in Asturias, in particular.

“…Small vertebrate skeletons may accumulate by accidental deaths or by predation and deposition by owls or diurnal birds of prey, which display clear preferences regarding the characteristics of their nesting places. In the case of the different levels at Cueva Victoria, the possible absence of birds of prey (the few remains recovered could not be determined because they are covered with carbonate precipitation), and consequently the low number of small vertebrate fossil remains, could be explained by an increase in human activity in the surroundings, as has already been identified at El Cierro and Peñalarga caves ( Álvarez-Fernández et al., 2020 ; Rofes et al., 2013 ). Neither can palaeoenvironmental interpretations be established from large mammals.…”

El presente trabajo se centra en exponer un estado de la cuestión sobre el Aziliense cantábrico, haciendo hincapié en la caracterización tecnológica y en el marco cronológico y paleoambiental. A pesar de su consideración transicional entre el Pleistoceno final y el comienzo del Holoceno, el Aziliense es un fenómeno plenamente pleistoceno, que se desarrolla en los momentos finales del tardiglaciar (aunque su extensión final llegue al comienzo del Holoceno). Por otra parte, a pesar de las diferencias existentes entre el Magdaleniense y el Aziliense, este último no deja de ser la continuación del anterior y la última fase del Paleolítico superior, donde quedan en evidencia una serie de procesos de cambio, que claramente no tienen que ver en primera instancia con los cambios climáticas que suponen la llegada del Holoceno.
