Abstract: Postmenopausal women were twice as likely to experience pain during SCSH as premenopausal women were. Therefore, postmenopausal women might benefit from analgesia induced prior to the procedure. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Clin Ultrasound 44:267-271, 2016.

“…These results may indicate that Echovist® is more “patient-friendly” than saline. In another study [36] on pain experience during SIS (n=99) it was observed that postmenopausal women experienced pain more often than premenopausal women (71% versus 32%; p<0.002). Also the character of the pain in relation to saline was different: postmenopausal women more often felt a sharp pain (42%), whereas premenopausal women more often felt gnawing and/or cramping pain (21%).…”

“…The SHG is usually painless and well tolerated, however, postmenopausal women more often feel sharp pain than premenopausal women do. 26 The administration of Buscopan or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents 30 to 60 minutes before SHG is recommended to reduce discomfort. 24 In addition, standard transvaginal ultrasound should be carried out to assess the endometrial lining and/or adnexal pathology before SHG.…”
