As a result of the declaration of the COVID-19 pandemic, several proposals of blockchain-based solutions for digital COVID-19 certificates have been presented. Considering that health data have high privacy requirements, a health data management system must fulfil several strict privacy and security requirements. On the one hand, confidentiality of the medical data must be assured, being the data owner (the patient) the actor that maintain control over the privacy of their certificates. On the other hand, the entities involved in the generation and validation of certificates must be supervised by a regulatory authority. This set of requirements are generally not achieved together in previous proposals. Moreover, it is required that a digital COVID-19 certificate management protocol provides an easy verification process and also strongly avoid the risk of forgery. In this paper we present the design and implementation of a protocol to manage digital COVID-19 certificates where individual users decide how to share their private data in a hierarchical system. In order to achieve this, we put together two different technologies: the use of a proxy re-encryption (PRE) service in conjunction with a blockchain-based protocol. Additionally, our protocol introduces an authority to control and regulate the centers that can generate digital COVID-19 certificates and offers two kinds of validation of certificates for registered and non-registered verification entities. Therefore, the paper achieves all the requirements, that is, data sovereignty, high privacy, forgery avoidance, regulation of entities, security and easy verification.

SummaryA decentralized application runs on the blockchain network without the intervention of a central authority. Transparency in transactions and security in vehicular networks are the issues for central systems. The proposed system uses blockchain‐based smart contracts, which eliminate the requirement for any third‐party verification. Additionally, with signature verification and reduced overhead, smart contracts also help in a fast and secure transaction. This study suggests a trust‐based system paradigm where certificate authority (CA) is employed for vehicle registration. We also propose a blockchain‐based system that provides efficient two‐way authentication and key agreement through encryption and digital signatures. The analysis of the proposed model reveals that it is an efficient way of establishing distributed trust management, which helps in preserving vehicle privacy. The proposed scheme is tested in Automated Validation of Internet Security‐sensitive Protocols (AVISPA), and security parameters verification in Network Simulator 2(NS2) also shows that the proposed scheme is more effective in comparison with existing schemes in terms of authentication cost, storage cost, and overhead.

PurposeIntent detection and slot filling are two important tasks in question comprehension of a question answering system. This study aims to build a joint task model with some generalization ability and benchmark its performance over other neural network models mentioned in this paper.Design/methodology/approachThis study used a deep-learning-based approach for the joint modeling of question intent detection and slot filling. Meanwhile, the internal cell structure of the long short-term memory (LSTM) network was improved. Furthermore, the dataset Computer Science Literature Question (CSLQ) was constructed based on the Science and Technology Knowledge Graph. The datasets Airline Travel Information Systems, Snips (a natural language processing dataset of the consumer intent engine collected by Snips) and CSLQ were used for the empirical analysis. The accuracy of intent detection and F1 score of slot filling, as well as the semantic accuracy of sentences, were compared for several models.FindingsThe results showed that the proposed model outperformed all other benchmark methods, especially for the CSLQ dataset. This proves that the design of this study improved the comprehensive performance and generalization ability of the model to some extent.Originality/valueThis study contributes to the understanding of question sentences in a specific domain. LSTM was improved, and a computer literature domain dataset was constructed herein. This will lay the data and model foundation for the future construction of a computer literature question answering system.
