With respect to the rapidly growing Fourth Generation (4G) wireless communication system, an outstanding feature is the heterogeneous wireless access. Despite the fact that this amazing feature allows users to connect to several wireless access networks simultaneously, various challenges with respect to bandwidth allocation (BA) among various heterogeneous networks also arise. A feasible and effective solution to tackle this problem has been proposed in this paper, which concerns a bandwidth allocation using game (BAG) algorithm with respect to heterogeneous wireless networks. This paper proposes modeling a Resource allocation RA or Bandwidth Allocation problem as a game, and then formulating it to increase the total utility to a maximum of the dissimilar networks. The game model that has been proposed in this paper also establishes the existence of the Experimental Economic Method (EEM). In order to divert assigning too much Resource or bandwidth to a single user, utility functions have also been designed. Moreover, simulation results reveal that the scheme proposed in this paper not only achieves a high utility, but also reduces blocking probability within a few iterations.

Abstract-HSDPA (High-Speed Downlink Packet Access), introduced in WCDMA release 5, provides a high-bandwidth shared channel with short transmission time interval (TTI). The short TTI together with appropriate scheduling enable HSDPA to support efficient multiplexing of traffic.We explain the performance of four scheduling algorithms when transmitting a traffic mix consisting of both conversational (VoIP) traffic and background (web) traffic over the high-speed downlink shared channel (HS-DSCH) of HSDPA. We consider both cell throughput and user satisfaction. The proportional fair (PF), the maximum rate (MR) scheduler and two extended versions of MR, are tested for different VoIP scheduling delay budgets and varying load.To understand the behaviour of the schedulers, we use the ns-2 simulator extended with a model of HS-DSCH to simulate a mixed traffic scenario. Our results show that a scheduler that gradually increases the VoIP priority and considers the user's current possible rate, performs well. A more drastic increase in VoIP priority is however needed when the delay budget is short. Furthermore, attempting to uphold quality for both VoIP and web traffic makes the system sensitive to overload situations.

In order to keep and/orexpand its share of the wireless communication market and decrease churn, it is important for network operators to keep their users (clients) satisfied. The problem to be solved is how to increase the number of satisfied non-real time (NRT) and real time (RT) users in the downlink of the radio access network of an orthogonal frequency division multiple access system. In this context, the present work proposes a method to solve the referred problem using a unified radio resource allocation (RRA) framework based on utility theory. This unified RRA framework is particularized into two RRA policies that use sigmoidal utility functions based on throughput or delay and are suitable for NRT and RT services, respectively. It is demonstrated by means of system-level simulations that a step-shaped sigmoidal utility function combined with a channel-aware opportunistic scheduling criterion is effective toward the objective of user satisfaction maximization.
