“…The goal was to have 100 favelas UPP occupied before the 2016 Olympics. There has been a decrease in lethal crime since and a simultaneous increase in reported non-lethal crime since 2008 [8]. It is believed the increase in non-lethal crime is due to the fact that residents feel more comfortable in reporting these crimes as there is an increased police presence in selected favelas.…”
