Abstract:Background
Oxidative stress takes part in the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The OxIBDiet (NCT04513015) is a multicentre ongoing project designed to evaluate oxidative status of IBD children and adults and to estimate the effects of an antioxidant diet in a subgroup of IBD patients.
Methods
The total antioxidant capacity, measured through the ferric reducing ability of plasma (FRAP, µmol/equivalent FeSO4) a… Show more
“…Oxidative stress and immune response are key factors in tissue damage associated with UC. 29,30 The excessive production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) disrupts the balance between oxidants and antioxidants, resulting in oxidative damage to the host. 31 In our experimental study, we observed a significant increase in myeloperoxidase (MPO) accumulation in the colon tissue of mice in the DSS group, indicating heightened levels of inflammation.…”
Veillonella and Lactobacillus species play vital roles in regulating a healthy gut environment through metabolic cross-feeding, influencing lactic acid and short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) levels. SCFAs are crucial for gut...

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
