P140 Factors associated with development of NAFLD in patients with inflammatory bowel disease: a 5-year retrospective study on 225 patients

Abstract: Background Patients with IBD are at higher risk for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) comparing to general population. Complex pathogenesis of NAFLD in IBD may be related to disease-specific risk factors such as chronic inflammation, steroid exposure, drug induced hepatotoxicity, malnutrition and alteration of gut microbiota, which is emerging as a major factor in the pathogenesis of NAFLD. The goal of the study was to investigate factors associated with NADLF and advanced liver fibro… Show more

“…However, our results also indicate an improvement in in ammatory ndings and nutritional status in patients with IBD complicated with NAFLD by 1 year after therapeutic intervention. Therefore, the poor nutrition and severe in ammation seen in patients with IBD complicated by NAFLD might be improved by therapeutic intervention for IBD [40,41].…”

“…Supporting this hypothesis, by continuing the treatment for IBD, improvement of nutritional status and inflammation were observed 1 year after CT imaging. Therefore, the persistent malnutrition and inflammation status in IBD patients with NAFLD may be ameliorated by continued treatment of IBD, which may also improve NAFLD [ 42 , 43 ]. In particular, patients with the total colitis type in UC and ileo-colitis type in CD are at high risk for NAFLD, and attention should be paid to their nutritional status to prevent progression to NAFLD.…”
