Abstract:Muscle wasting diseases and aging are associated with impaired myogenic stem cell self-renewal and a diminished number of their proliferating and differentiating committed muscle progenitor cells (MPs). Importantly, distinct metabolic states govern how MPs proliferate and differentiate. Central to this is the regulation of energy generation between glycolysis in the cytoplasm and oxidative phosphorylation (Oxphos) in the mitochondria. However, the mechanisms that connect these energy provisioning centers to co… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
