P005: Ultrasonographic indicators in predicting postnatal outcomes of antenatally detected ventriculomegaly

To review MR images of more common fetal CNS pathologies and pitfalls. Methods and materials: Twenty-one fetal MR examinations were performed in a 1.5T MR. They were referred to assess abnormalities of the fetal CNS detected by screening sonography. Results: Technical aspects of the MR studies are presented. Normal fetal brain and column MR images in different stage of maturity are reviewed as the ventricular size, neuronal migration, sulcation and gyration development, myelination, corpus callosum and posterior fossa. A spectrum of CNS disorders is showed: Agenesis of the corpus callosum, DandyWalker malformation, unilateral ventriculomegaly, subependymal heterotopia, coroid plexus papilloma, congenital infection and dorsal myelomeningocele. Conclusion: MR imaging has demonstrated to provide higher anatomic and pathologic information than sonography in studying CNS. To improve diagnostic capabilities of MR imaging of the CNS diseases it is important to be familiarized with technical aspects of the studies and with MR imaging of the CNS development.
