P-RNAV, Safety Targets, Blunders And Parallel Route Spacing

Abstract: The aim is try to understand how aircraft flying on adjacent routes using precision area navigation, meeting Required Navigation Performance and under air traffic control, ought to be addressed by safety studies, given the increasing importance of blunders.2. “…Hsu researched the aircraft collision risk problem of intersecting air-routes for aircraft pairs flying on level air-routes at the same altitude with the invariable speed and both the Gaussian and the double double exponential model are used for the position error distributions to compute the aircraft overlap probability [8] . A Post-Reich' event model was developed by Brooker for lateral collision risk in air traffic track systems and applied to lateral collision in the North Atlantic Region track system, which resolves the problems of the Reich model [9] . It is a direct and concrete approach focusing on events, in contrast to Reich's synthetic methodology.…”

“…On the basis of Reich's model and the improved models, the concept of Target Level of Safety (TLS) in airspace is proposed by International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) [10]. Besides, the studies on aircraft lateral separation minima in the North Atlantic region [11], aircraft vertical separation minima in Europe [12][13][14], aircraft longitudinal separation minima in the Asia-Pacific region [15], as well as collision risk analysis for Performance-based Navigation (PBN) procedures [16][17][18][19], are all based on Reich's study. The mentioned aircraft separation and collision risk studies contribute greatly to aircraft separation minima determination in the aspects of structured airspace and evolved flight procedure.…”

“…The risk values calculated using the developed models are only the relative measure of safety. This means that there are intended for the purpose of comparison between numerous scenarios, not for comparison with a Target Level of Safety (TLS) given by the international regulations [38][39][40].…”
