“…The present results and those of others suggest the need for a collaboration between T cells and macrophages in the mediation of nonspecific tumor growth inhibition. Both Ashley et al [21] and Tuttle and North [13] showed a similar need for radiation-sensitive cells in recipient mice, as we have shown here for the chicken, and both groups proposed activation of macrophages (monocytes) as the effector mechanism. Preliminary results obtained in our laboratory indeed suggest that macrophages activated in vitro and injected with tumor cells into wing webs of recipients, can by themselves cause tumor growth inhibition ( Concomitant immunity to unrelated tumors in tumor-bearing mice has been noted by North and Kirstein [28] and may well depend on a generalized activation of macrophages in such mice bearing progressively growing tumor, as was indicated by the presence of enhanced resistance t o Listeria monocytogenes infection.…”

“…The formation of the skarn at Gumble appears to have followed the paths proposed by Atkinson and Einaudi (1978), and Verkaeran and Bartholome (1979), and to some extent, that described by Kwak and Tan (1981), and Ashley (1980). The primary stage involves the alteration of limestone to hedenbergite, andradite, grossular, epidote, idocrase, diopside, wollastonite, and magnetite.…”

“…We do not know whether the Ag characterized in the present study are related to any of the protective Ag of Salmonellae that have been deseribed by others, although the method of preparing the slIRX whieh we used as starting tnaterial for purification (19) makes it unlikely that API6 is an outer membrane protein. The'T cell western blot' method used to monitor antigenic activity has the advantage that Ag do not have to be preselected (e.g.…”
