P‐85: Improvement of the Transmittance of ADS Mode in 8K Display

Abstract: One of the main factors for popularization of 8K TV is the drastically deteriorated transmittance. We proposed several ways to improve the transmittance of ADS mode in 8K display, such as modifying the traditional pixel layout and adopting new materials. The transmittance gap between 4K and 8K has narrowed.

“…The smaller S is, the smaller L0 brightness is. The scattering coefficient S is calculated as follows: 2 × 𝑑 𝐾 In the formula, n is the refractive index of LC and d is the cell gap; K is the elastic constant of LC. It can be seen from the formula that the scattering coefficient S can be reduced by reducing the refractive index n of LC, reducing cell gap d and increasing the elastic constant K. Since the Δn of N-LC is smaller than that of P-LC and K is higher, the scattering coefficient (S) of N-LC cell is smaller.…”
