P‐144: A Systematic Research of Image Sticking in Fringe Field Switching Liquid Crystal Displays

Abstract: A systematic research of image sticking (IS) in a fringe field switching liquid crystal displays is demonstrated. After the IS test of mosaic pattern and switching to the mid-grey level image, the root mean square voltage (Vrms) difference between the black and white block should be controlled under the 1 mV to avoid the phenomenon of image sticking detected by the human eye. A detailed analysis of voltage calculation and how to decrease the difference ofVrms are presented. Author Keywords image sticking; frin… Show more

“…The time difference between signal lines to different locations could lead to signal delay, the different feedthrough voltages caused by different gray scales, and the center of positive and negative pixel voltage deviate from Vcom at display. All of the above phenomena would result in different degrees of DC bias voltage [ 10 , 38 ]. Hence, we studied the variation in residual DC voltage with time under different bias voltages in the LC materials.…”

“…When long time weak signal input to panel, it will lead to pixel electrode in panel remaining direct current(DC) residual charge, and the asymmetry of pixel positive and negative voltage. As a result, previous image is sticking in current image [2]- [4] or flicker occur in video picture(Figure 2).…”

“…When there are charged particles such as ions or free radicals, the charged particles will be adsorbed on the PI surface under the action of electric field to form DC bias voltage. 4,5 In previous study, finding the root cause of image sticking is very difficult for us, as well as for competitors.…”

“…With the increase of lighting time, PI, liquid crystal and other materials will produce charged particles such as ions and free radicals under backlight irradiation and heating. When there are charged particles such as ions or free radicals, the charged particles will be adsorbed on the PI surface under the action of electric field to form DC bias voltage 4,5 …”
