“…Pain level, according to the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) was 7.8 ± 2.1 before the commencement of ozone therapy by local and rectal insufflation. There was a significative (p < 0.05) and clinically relevant decrease (>5 points in VAS) pain reduction after the first three months of ozone treatment [82], at the end of treatment, and nine months after the end of ozone therapy. Five of six patients were able to decrease or even discontinue analgesic intake requirements [83].…”

“…Finally, we describe our experience in a small group of patients with chronic neuropathic pelvic pain secondary to cancer treatments (chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and surgery) [82,83]. In this group, cancer treatment included radiotherapy in five patients, chemotherapy in four, and surgery in two.…”

“…Ozone for medical use consists of a gas mixture of O3 and O2, obtained from medical-grade oxygen using an ozone generator device that has to be administered in situ because of its short half-life. Ozone is used in a broad spectrum of diseases such as infection (14), neuropathic pain (15)(16)(17), and posttreatment adhesion formation (18). Oxidative stress, inflammation, and ischemia/hypoxia are the principal mechanisms involved in pain (17).…”

Oxidative stress, inflammation, and ischemia/hypoxia are the principal mechanisms involved in pain (17). The previous studies demonstrated that ozone can favorably modify those processes for the resolution of zoster-associated pain, complex regional pain syndrome, and refractory pelvic pain syndromes secondary to cancer treatment (15)(16)(17).…”
