Ozonation of Substituted Diazomethanes1

Abstract: The solution was refluxed for 24 hr. and the sulfide was isolated in the manner described for XVIII; 76 mg. (22%) of light yellow oil which was about 95% pure (by gas-liquid chromatography) was obtained. Microfractionation yielded a colorless liquid.Anal. Caled, for C,2H24S: C, 71.95; H, 12.08. Found: C, 72.08; H, 12.12. Thiacycloundecane (XXlI).-The above procedure duplicated with 11.5 g. (0.038 mole) of 1,10-dibromodecane (XX) (Fisher Scientific Corp.) yielded 850 mg. (13%) of 96+% pure (g.l.c.) thiacycl… Show more

“…We also examined whether oxygen-free ozone would influence the reaction. An O 3 /N 2 gas mixture was prepared by first trapping the ozone on silica gel and then releasing it into a nitrogen stream . All of these variations showed comparable results in the FTIR (Figure ).…”

“…The ozonation equipment and procedures using ozoneoxygen or ozone-nitrogen are described in earlier papers (12). For ozonations involving the addition of a cold solution of a substrate to an ozonized solution, without warming or introduction of oxygen occurring, a special two-chambered vessel shown in Fig.…”

“…of chloroform was cooled to -60°C. and treated with an ozone-nitrogen stream containing 6 mmoles of ozone; the exit gases were analyzed for molecular oxygen (4,5,16). From the beginning of the ozonation a slight blue color arising from the presence of 2-methyl-2-nitrosopropane (X) appeared, but it was replaced at the end by the purple color of unreacted ozone.…”
