“…In the present study, we used a specific mass spectrometry-based assay to measure plasma 7bhydroxycholesterol and 7-ketocholesterol in patients with cystic fibrosis. These oxysterols are validated markers of lipid peroxidation in vivo (16), which have been shown to be elevated in several clinical conditions characterized by high systemic oxidative stress status and suggested as potential disease markers in atherosclerosis, liver disease, and adolescence metabolic syndrome (10,21,22). Our data showed elevated free radical-derived oxysterol concentrations and a distorted fatty acid profile in the plasma of cystic fibrosis patients.…”

“…Further details on the cohort methods and findings will be presented elsewhere. Subset analyses of the Montréal mother-daughter GDM cohort examining other biomarkers of disease have been published (18). The study was approved by the Ethical Review Board of the McGill University Health Center (Québec, Canada), and informed consent was obtained from all participants.…”

“…Some oxysterols (e.g., 7-ketocholesterol) show cytotoxic and pro-apoptotic properties [29][30][31]. Pathogenic effects of oxysterols have also been described in cardiovascular diseases [16,32], diabetes [33] type 2, and degenerative disorders such as the Alzheimer disease [34][35][36], osteoporosis [37], and age-related macular degeneration [38,39]. There are also reports describing the role of oxysterols in neurological diseases [25,40].…”
