Oxymetholone in aplastic anaemia

Abstract: Summary Thirty-one patients with aplastic anaemia were treated with oxymetholone. Twenty-eight patients lived beyond 2 months and of these eleven patients showed clinical and haematological improvement. Ten of these had some active erythropoietic areas as shown by bone marrow biopsies and by the presence of an elevated reticulocyte count in the peripheral blood. Two patients who responded in spite of a markedly hypoplastic marrow and reticulocytopenia became oxymetholone dependent and relapsed w… Show more

“… 13 ANC <5 x 10 9 /L was presented as a factor influencing mortality. 16 On multivariable analysis, we did not find significant differences between ANC <5 x 10 9 /L and ANC ≥5 x 10 9 /L. Undetectable association between neutrophil count and mortality could have been affected by the small sample size which was one of our limitations.…”
