Oxymatrine and cancer therapy

Abstract: Oxymatrine is a kind of alkaloid extracted from traditional Chinese herb Sophora flavescens Ait. It has been proved to exert various biological activities such as anti-angiogenesis, proliferation-inhibiting, apoptosis-promoting, analgesicstrengthening, and anti-metastasis. The biological activities are related with inhibition of angiogenesis-associated factors, regulation of related signaling pathway and protein expression, synergistic effects with chemotherapy drug, cell cycle arrest and inhibition of voltage… Show more

“…A lot of protective natural compounds had been found for their neuroprotective properties in preventing diseases and inflammation [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 ]. Chili peppers have become a vital part of culinary cultures worldwide and have a long history of use for flavoring, coloring, and preserving food, as well as for medical purposes.…”

“…It has elucidated that treatment with oxymatrine was obviously competent at inhibiting the nuclear translocation of the NF-κB p65 (Lu et al, 2015;Halim et al, 2019), and thus it is postulated that it may be efficient in reversing the EMT process regarded as an anti-metastatic agent. Surprisingly, there is a pharmacological investigation revealed that oxymatrine markedly blocked the migration and invasion of CRC RKO cells via inhibiting NF-κB p65 activation, and then regulated the EMT-associated genes, such as E-cadherin, N-cadherin, and Snail expressions to reverse the EMT process (Liang and Huang, 2016).…”

“…[9] The roots of a Chinese traditional medicinal plant that is, Sophora flavescens Ait, belonging to the family Fabaceae is found to contain a major quinolizidine alkaloid oxymatrine (OMT). [11,12] This traditional herb has created its importance over the ages to deal with and treat several fibrotic and inflammatory disorders and is remarkably effective without rendering a vast array of side effects. [11,[13][14][15] The ERK/MAPK pathway is a known activator of TNF-α which takes a toll on both the optic nerve head (ONH) and TM, hence can be seen as a potent contributor to systemic and neuronal inflammation.…”

[11,[13][14][15] The ERK/MAPK pathway is a known activator of TNF-α which takes a toll on both the optic nerve head (ONH) and TM, hence can be seen as a potent contributor to systemic and neuronal inflammation. TNF-α infestation at the TM cells induces alterations at the lamina cribrosa region via initiation of infiltration of the microglia and monocytes resulting in antigen presentation to the T cells.…”
