Oxygenated Surface of Carbon Nanotube Sponges: Electroactivity and Magnetic Studies

Abstract: We report the synthesis of nitrogen-doped carbon nanotube sponges (N-CNSs) by pyrolysis of solutions of benzylamine, ferrocene, thiophene, and isopropanol-based mixture at 1020 °C for 4 h using an aerosol-assisted chemical vapor deposition system. The precursors were transported through a quartz tube using a dynamic flow of H2/Ar. We characterized the N-CNSs by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectro… Show more

“…SG-2h in benzylamine provokes high O1s to contain in N-MWCNTs which could be very important to electrochemistry studies [89]. This phenomenon has been studied, and it is attributed to the possible oxidation of benzylamine [90,91]. At higher temperatures, this process is less than possible.…”

“…In the deconvoluted O 1 s spectra of CN x and Alg( x )‐CN x , we found the COOH, COC, CO/COO − , and CO (Figure 3c, Table S4, Supporting Information) [29a] . The atomic percentage of CO/(CO) N showed an increment in all Alg( x )‐CN x compared with neat CN x .…”

“…The chemical groups found in the XPS high‐resolution spectra for N 1 s of CN x were nitrogen oxide (NO x ), N‐quaternary, N‐pyrrolic, amine or amide groups, and N‐pyridinic (Figure 3b, Table S2, Supporting Information) [29b,31] . The nitrogen‐doping is mainly pyrrolic with an atomic percentage of 0.4% and few N functionalizations.…”
