Rice husk (RH) is one of the most earth abundant, low-cost, and ecofriendly agricultural residues. In this study, we successfully synthesized activated carbon from rice husk (RHAC) through carbonizing the rice husk and activating chemical by K 2 CO 3 . The effect of carbonization and activation temperature was investigated. At temperature of 800 o C, activated carbon was obtained with high surface area of 1583 m 2 .g -1 and pore volume of 0.93 cm 3 .g -1 . These results suggest that the earth-abundant RH could be sustainable resources for large-scale production of activated carbon.
