Abstract: 0(4D) + 02(1Ag) (1); 0(XD) + 02(32g-) -0(3P) + 02(12g+) (2); 02(12g+) + C02(000) -02(4Ag) + C02(n, m, 1) n = 1, m = 0; n = 0, m = 2°, 22 (3); C02(n, m, 1) + C02(000) -» C02(n, m, 0) + CO2(001) (4). The population inversion between the (001) and (100) vibrational levels of C02 is created by reaction 4, as only a fraction of the V-V energy exchange populates the lower laser level, while every V-V exchange populates the upper laser level.
