Oxydation des alcools. I — Choix de l'adamantanol pour déterminer la structure de l'état de transition dans l'oxydation par Cr(VI)

The nature of hydrogen transfer occurring during the slow step of the oxidation reaction of the alcohol using chromic acid has been studied by measuring the secondary deuterium isotope effects. The results obtained with cyclohexanol (k"/kD = 1.25); cis-4-tert-butylcyclohexanol (k"/k" = 1.44); trans-4-tert-butylcyclohexanol (kH/kD = I ,lo); exo-2-norbornanol : exo-3-d, (kH/kD = 0.99), endo-3-d, (kH/kD = 1.09), 3-3-d, (kH/kD = 1.07); endo-2-norbornanol: exo-3-d, (k"/kD = 1.09, endo-3-d, (kH/kD = 1.00) and 3-3-d2 (kH/kD = 1.07) are more in agreement with a proton transfer than with a hydride transfer if there is no important structural modification of the chromic esters. Toutes les experiences ont ete realisees a 25.0 f O,IoC dans le solvant AcOH/H,O 75/25 en volume, la temperature etant fixee a O,OIoC pres a la valeur 25,O 0,IoC. Dans le milieu cinetique, la concentration en bichrornate de sodium etait de 5.10-4 M, celle en alcool de 0,015 a 0,025 M. La concentration en proton 0.25 M a 0,0125 M etait ajustk de facon a avoir un temps de demi-vie de I'ordre de 5 mn. La reaction est suivie pendant quatre fois le temps de demi-vie au rnoins.Le traitement des donnees a ete fait en lissant la courbe exponentielle observk par la methode des moindres carres, a I'aide de l'ordinateur IBM 3 6 W 0 de l'U.S.T.L. Le calcul de la constante cinetique termoleculaire est fait en divisant la constante experimentale par la concentration en proton et par la concentration en alcool. Les valeurs indiquies dans le Tableau I representent la moyenne d'au rnoins sept determinations independantes.
