Oxidative steam reforming of ethanol over Rh catalyst supported on Ce1−xLaxOy (x = 0.3) solid solution prepared by urea co-precipitation method

Abstract: h i g h l i g h t s g r a p h i c a l a b s t r a c tCeeLa solid solution supported Rh catalyst shows high activity for H 2 production. The catalyst also shows low CO selectivity and good stability. The performance of the catalysts varied depending on urea/metal ratio during preparation.a r t i c l e i n f o is prepared by a co-precipitation method using urea as a precipitant, with varying urea/metal molar ratio (N). The supported rhodium catalysts are then prepared by an impregnation method for use in hydroge… Show more

“…The degree of dispersion in all the catalysts was high as typically observed for low Rh content catalysts. As has been widely reported [33][34][35][36][37], CeO 2 is known to enhance the reducibility and the dispersion of the supported metal due to a strong interaction between metal and CeO 2 which suppress their sintering.…”

“…DRIFT spectra obtained during ethanol steam reforming reaction a 723K over:(A) Rh/A and (B) Rh/L(5)CA34 DRIFT spectrum at the beginning of reaction for Rh/A catalyst showed absorption bands corresponding to CO adsorbed over metallic Rh sites (at 1998 and 1800 cm -1 ,associated with linear and bridged CO species) and weak bands at ca. 1570, 1460 and 1390 cm -1 corresponding to acetate species.…”

“…Lanthanum oxycarbonate formation from La 2 O 3 support or high amount of mobile lattice oxygen in CeO 2 support are responsible for the removal of carbon deposits during fuel conversion over Ni-based catalysts [21]. Ce 1-x M x O y solid solutions (M = Zr, La) are also widely used as supports for reforming catalyst due to their redox properties, high oxygen capacity and mobility, as well as the implementation of strong interaction between supported metal and carrier [6,[22][23][24]. The own catalytic ability of CeO 2 -based supports and mode of their interaction with the active component are affected by dopant type [6,25,26].…”

“…Secondly, and most importantly, there is a growing interest in the use of nanoparticles for steam reforming [13][14][15][16][17][18]. Catalyst particles as small as 0.4 nm (that should contain only a few atoms) have been reported [14].…”
