Biscarboranes are comprised of two carborane units linked with a CÀ C, BÀ B or CÀ B bond, which have important applications in functional materials, coordination chemistry as well as metallacarboranes. Except the well-developed 1,1'-bis(o-carborane), the biscarboranes linked with BÀ B and CÀ B bond are still rarely explored due to the limited synthetic methods. This review summarizes the methods for synthesis of biscarboranes in the past half century and recent advances thereof.
