Statistical Line Blanketing in Arcturus. I. Blanketing-Coefficient Description of Observations

“…Line blanketing in solar-type stars involves nonnegligible contributions from thousands of lines, and so practical considerations require a simplified statistical description of blanketing in the construction of model atmospheres. A variety of such descriptions recently have been proposed and, in some cases, used in model atmosphere construction (Allen 1966(Allen , 1968(Allen , 1970Böhm-Vitense 1969;Carbon and Gingerich 1969;Morgan 1973;Mutschlecner andKeller 1970, 1972;Parsons 1969;Strom and Kurucz 1966).
