Oxidation Behavior of the Si-B-X (X = Mo, Cr, or Ti) Alloys in the Temperature Range of 1000–1400 °C

Abstract: Low-melting-point silicon–boron system alloys are promising for low-temperature reactive melt infiltration to reduce high-temperature damage to silicon carbide fibers during the densification of SiC/SiC composites. Meanwhile, the oxidation resistance of the alloys will have a large impact on the intrinsic oxidation resistance of the composite. Herein, three alloys, Si-14.88B-7Mo, Si-14.88B-7Ti, and Si-14.88B-7Cr, were fabricated to investigate the oxidation behavior in air at 1000–1400 °C. The results showed t… Show more

“…Burns et al used the crack marking bands method to show that cycle of fatigue crack formation gradually decreased as maximum stress increased in pre-corroded AA7075-T651 [14]. From fatigue tests on AA2024-T62 specimens immersed in 3.5% sodium chloride solution at different stress ratios, Liu et al showed that the crack growth rate of pre-corroded specimens at a stress ratio of -1 was significantly greater than for un-corroded specimens; while corrosion did not increase the rate of crack growth for stress ratio of 0.06 [15].…”

“…As such, nonunified test conditions can cause major discrepancies and controversial results, which, to some extent, disable reliable comparisons between laboratories and confuse the entire community. [88] Balanced Performance, rather than a one-sided one, is more crucial for metal halide scintillators. Hence, understanding and manipulating the interplays among the figures-of-merit, including light output, sensitivity, radio-luminescent time, spatial resolution, and imaging dose, is of great importance.…”
