Childhood is a critical period for susceptibility to malnutrition. The consumption of ultraprocessed foods (UPFs) has been increasing among children. The objective of this study was to evaluate the relationship between UPF intake and overweight/obesity and malnutrition in children. 788 children aged 6 years were included in a population-based cross-sectional study in Tehran. A 168-item semiquantitative food frequency questionnaire was used to evaluate dietary intake. UPFs were detected using the NOVA classiﬁcation system. Logistic regression analyses were used, and results were reported as odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence interval (CI) of obesity and malnutrition across the tertiles of UPFs adjusted for energy intake, socioeconomic status, and physical activity. The mean weight, height, BMI, and total energy intake of participants were 20.85 ± 2.35 kg, 113.75 ± 2.00 cm, 16.12 + 1.84 kg/m2, and 1014.74 ± 259.16 (kcal/d), respectively. There were no significant associations between UPF intake and obesity (OR = 0.97; 95% CI 0.31 to 3.01; P-trend = 0.98), wasting (OR = 0.94; 95% CI 0.30 to 2.87; P-trend = 0.87), overweight/obesity (OR = 0.86; 95% CI 0.59 to 1.25; P-trend = 0.45), underweight/wasting (OR = 0.69; 95% CI 0.40 to 1.17; P-trend = 0.17), marginal-stunting (OR = 1.16; 95% CI 0.71 to 1.89; P-trend = 0.53), or marginal-stunting/overweight/obesity (OR = 1.25; 95% CI 0.62 to 2.54; P-trend = 0.47). There was no evidence of an association between intake of UPFs and risk of overweight, obesity, and malnutrition in children.

The aim: Of the work was to study and evaluate the risk factors and the level of primary medical care for children with overweight and obesity. Materials and methods: A sociological survey was conducted in main (413 persons) and control group (396 persons) and the copying from the history of the child’s development (f.112/a) of 280 obese children was conducted. Results: It was defined that on the development of excess weight in children and adolescents, biological and social and hygienic factors had a significant impact (η ≥ 3%; p<0,001) and that the level of primary medical care for obese children (proved diagnosis of obesity in the history of the child (f. №.112/а) had only 61,7±2,7% of patients) was insufficient. Conclusions: Identification of comprehensive priority activities for solving problem of children overweight and obesity based on the results of conducted research were done.

Absract Purpose of the study. Identify measures to optimize the quality of life of children and adolescents with obesity. Materials and methods. Bibliographic, statistical and sociological methods. Results. It is noted an insufficient level of registration of obesity among children. During the study it was found that true prevalence of obesity and overweight in children and adolescents in Kharkiv was 151,0 ± 5,2. 22 factors of risk had a reliable impact on the development of overweight in children and adolescents. The main risk factors for the formation of the overweight were biological and social and hygienic. It was proved that the relative average life quality index of children and adolescents with obesity was 60,7 ± 0,5%, and the most significant were restrictions in the physical (Rx = –6,8) and psychological and emotional (Rx = –4,4) spheres. The revealed shortcomings of medical assistance were: insufficient level of timely detection of the disease, medical-diagnostic process, a very low level of coverage by clinical supervision (29,6 ± 2,7%), insufficient medical and hygienic education of the parents and, as a result and an unreasonable loading on specialized care. Based on the results of the research, the main measures to optimize the quality of life of obese children were identified. Conclusions. Thus, to solve the problem of obesity in children such structures as local governments, educational institutions, healthcare institutions and public organizations should be obligatory involved. In particular, leading measures to optimize medical care were identified. Keywords: overweight, obesity, children, prevalence, quality of life, risk factors, medical care.
