The current expansion of renewable energies, restructuring in power systems, and high tendency to preserve the privacy of energy customers could lead to significant changes in distribution systems. Accordingly, studies on local markets have introduced a suitable framework for energy trading known as the Peer-to-Peer (P2P) market in distribution systems. Several research works have been done on the P2P market modeling and optimization in recent years. This paper aims to develop an appropriate P2P market framework in which the distribution system operator (DSO) can rerun the P2P market and maneuver in the case of the network failure. Respectively, in case of any grid failure, the P2P market can be adjusted according to new conditions of the grid, which is not studied in the previously developed methodologies. In addition to enabling the P2P framework to be usable when a network failure occurs in the system, this paper proposes a reliability cost model associated with participated sellers in the P2P market, which enables buyers to consider the reliability of the sellers in their decisions. Consequently, the developed scheme facilitates the reliable operation of distribution systems in a distributed manner. Restructuring in power systems has resulted in the development of microgrids (MGs) as entities that could be operated in grid-connected or islanded modes while managing the operation of their systems. On the other hand, privatization and integration of independently operated distributed resources in energy systems have caused the introduction of multi-agent structures. In this regard, new operational management methodologies should be employed by the MG operator (MGO) to efficiently operate the system while addressing the distributed nature of multi-agent structures. Accordingly, this paper aims to provide a new algorithm to operate an islanded multi-agent MG utilizing the peer-to-peer (P2P) management concept; which copes with the distributed nature of the system. Consequently, each agent would independently schedule its respective local resources, while participating in the hourly P2P market scheme. Moreover, MGO manages the power transactions among the agents. Furthermore, different types of power generation resources are modeled in the proposed optimization scheme while scenario-based stochastic optimization, as well as the condition-value-at-risk index, are deployed to address the uncertainty and the operational risk associated with the operational optimization of renewable energies. Finally, the developed framework is implemented on a 10-bus-MG test system to investigate its effectiveness in the management of the system and also on a 33-bus-MG test system to study its scalability.

Local electricity trading is a concept that allows active electricity trading between consumers, producers and/or prosumers located in a local low voltage distribution grid. The concept should provide added value to the participants and accelerate the democratization, decarbonization and decentralization of the power sector. The effects of local electricity trading on voltage levels in distribution grids are just in the early stage of research, together with the possible means of control, market design, market-clearing approaches and integration of the local electricity trading within the electricity markets. The aim of this work is to contribute to the research by examining if near real-time local electricity trading can be implemented in a distribution grid without time-consuming security-constrained unit commitment calculations for the observed time horizon and without security-constrained economic dispatch calculations for each trading period. Moreover, this work investigates if the implementation of local electricity trading can contribute to the avoidance of unpredictable and unfavorable consumption/production patterns, which can appear in the distribution grid due to the random behavior of a large number of participants. It is analyzed if a contribution to the maintenance of the voltages and currents within limits can be achieved that way. The method for simulation of a local electricity market and analysis of power flows and voltage levels is presented. The auction-based local electricity trading is simulated and applied on the modified IEEE European Low Voltage Test Feeder where the effects of local electricity trading on power flows and voltage levels are studied for boundary elasticities and prices of demand and supply offering curves. It is shown that the local electricity trading has potential to incentivize active participation of prosumers, which can lead to better demand/supply balancing at the local level and to a decrease of voltage fluctuations.
