Overview of the latest jet physics results from ALICE

Abstract: We overview recent jet measurements in pp and Pb-Pb collisions with the ALICE detector. AL-ICE reconstructs jets at midrapidity using the anti-T algorithm, including both charged particle jets from the ALICE tracking detectors, and full jets from the combination of the ALICE electromagnetic calorimeter with the tracking system. We focus on inclusive and semi-inclusive jet measurements as well as jet substructure measurements, including a variety of groomed and ungroomed observables. In pp collisions, these res… Show more

“…where 2 , where f= 0.54 fm , β 2 =0.162 and β 4 =-0.003 are the deformation parameters [13], a=diffuseness parameter= 0.59 fm, Π (35 cos 4 θ − 30 cos 2 θ + 3) are spherical harmonics. The geometrical configurations are mainly controlled by θ, integrating all other coordinates over the same range.…”

“…One of the primary mission of ultra-relativistic nuclear collisions as performed at the Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider (RHIC) and the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), is to produce and study, a novel and peculiar state of matter called as Quark-Gluon plasma (QGP) and its properties [1]. High transverse momentum quarks and gluons (jets), created from early stage hard scatterings are very useful probes of such highly excited nuclear matter [2]. These hard partonic jets lose energy as they interact with the medium ingredients while propagating through the QGP medium before fragmenting into hadrons.…”

“…In the medium this splitting phase space can be explored to find regions of modification for the splittings. New in this branch of jet physics are fully unfolded distributons of z g and θ g in A+A collisions [14,15]. No significant modification of the z g distribution was observed while the opening angle between the subjets shows an enhancement at small values and suppression at large values, see Fig.…”

“…Shown is the ratio of Pb+Pb to pp which reveals a supression of large angle splittings and an enhancement of small angle splittings in Pb+Pb collisions as compared to pp collisions. The comparision of the z g distribution shows no evidence for a modification in the momentum balance of the splitting [14,15]. formation after fragmentation and hadronisation.…”
