“…Salt stress adversely affects crop productivity and survival by exerting osmotic and ionic stresses on plants [ 103 ]. GABA accumulation is an endogenous response of plants to salinity stress [ 28 , 104 ], suggesting a role for GABA in alleviating salt stress [ 20 ].…”

“…Even though most of the transcription factors are up‐regulated during stress, a few are known to be down regulated that play an important role in primary plant growth processes (Bhargava & Sawant 2013). They alter gene expression patterns that prevents oxidative damage under such conditions (Priya et al 2019, Shomali & Aliniaeifard 2020). Lately an array of transcription factor families related to drought stress has been identified (Joshi et al 2016).…”

“…On drought exposure, ABA is readily synthesized in plant roots and translocated to the shoots, mainly the leaves (Salehi‐Lisar & Bakhshayeshan‐Agdam 2016). Expression of various genes involved in ABA synthesis such as zeaxanthin epoxidase ( ZEP ), aldehyde oxidase ( AAO3 ), 9‐cis‐epoxycarotenoid dioxygenase3 ( NCED3 ), and molybdenum cofactor sulfurase gene ( MCSU ) are upregulated during stress (Feki & Brini 2016; Kaur et al 2016; Shomali & Aliniaeifard 2020) leading to ABA synthesis and accumulation. The accumulated ABA further activates signaling pathways involved in imparting tolerance during drought stress (Todaka et al 2019).…”
