Overview of results from the MST reversed field pinch experiment

Abstract: An overview of recent results from the MST reversed field pinch programme is presented. With neutral beam injection, bursty energetic particle (EP) modes are observed. The profiles of the magnetic and density fluctuations associated with these EP modes are measured using a far infrared interferometer-polarimeter. Equilibrium reconstructions of the quasi-single-helicity 3D helical state are provided by the V3FIT code that now incorporates several of MST's advanced diagnostics. The orientation of the helical str… Show more

“…Furthermore, an unexpected high-frequency (comparable to the geodesic acoustic mode and beta-induced Alfven eigenmode) fishbone has also been observed in JET experiments, with a theoretical interpretation based on a new suitable dispersion relation [12][13][14]. In reversed-field pinch (RFP) configuration, NBI has only recently been applied on the Madison symmetric torus (MST) experiments, with the observation of EP-induced MHD fluctuations [15][16][17]. All the above results provided useful insight into the physics of EPs interacting with global MHD modes.…”

“…The electron density is in the range n e ˜10 19 m −3 . The mission of KTX is complementary to the existing international RFP facilities [5][6][7][8]. Studies on plasma wall interaction, RFP boundary plasma, transport in different boundary conditions, single helicity (SH) state [9][10][11] are the main physics priorities of KTX.…”
