Overview of Mechanics of Pipes Conveying Fluids—Part I: Fundamental Studies

Abstract: This two-part review article presents an overview of mechanics of pipes conveying fluid and related problems such as the fluidelastic instability under conditions of turbulence in nuclear power plants. In the first part, different types of modeling, dynamic analysis, and stability regimes of pipes conveying fluid restrained by elastic or inelastic barriers are described. The dynamic and stability behaviors of pinned-pinned, clamped-clamped, and cantilevered pipes conveying fluid together with curved and articu… Show more

“…Within this context, the transverse vibration and stability of such pipes have been studied while the problems of undamped pinned-pinned, clampedpinned and fixed end fluid-conveying pipe have also been tackled numerically. Ibrahim [1], in fact, recently gave a comprehensive review on the subject. Housner [2] studied the problem of the Trans-Arabian pipeline and, derive the governing differential equation.…”

“…Dynamic behavior of the fluid-conveying pipes has significant importance due to its extensive application in different industries such as petrol and gas transportation systems (Païdoussis 1998, Ibrahim 2010, Ghaitani and Esmaeili 2013. These pipes often lie on a foundation and would be cracked as a result of various internal and external loads while conveying fluid.…”

“…Paï-doussis [2] summarized the fruits before 1987. In 2010, the achievements during the past 60 years, especially the progresses of nonlinear vibrations and bifurcations, were overviewed by Ibrahim [3,4].…”

“…As the velocity of the fluid is bigger than the critical value, the straight configuration will be bended [3]. Chen and Zhang obtained the dynamic properties of a supercritical pipe with 2:1 internal resonance in 2012 [23] and 2014 [24].…”
