Overview of Dual-Active-Bridge Isolated Bidirectional DC–DC Converter for High-Frequency-Link Power-Conversion System

Abstract: High-frequency-link (HFL) power conversion systems (PCSs) are attracting more and more attentions in academia and industry for high power density, reduced weight, and low noise without compromising efficiency, cost, and reliability. In HFL PCSs, dual-active-bridge (DAB) isolated bidirectional dcdc converter (IBDC) serves as the core circuit. This paper gives an overview of DAB-IBDC for HFL PCSs. First, the research necessity and development history are introduced. Second, the research subjects about basic char… Show more

“…The proposed universal bidirectional DC-DC converter is composed of an inductor, two capacitors and four power switches, as shown in Figure 1 [29]. By comparing the battery voltage (V bat ) and the DC-bus voltage (V bus ), the power flow direction can be determined.…”

“…Dual-active bridge DC-DC converters can provide universal bidirectional power conversion; however, these topologies require a large number of power switches (typically eight). Moreover, they are all isolated type bidirectional DC-DC converters [29]. In [30,31], a novel low loss modulation strategy with simple circuit configuration is proposed.…”

“…Consequently, in the on-board condition, several topologies that replace the line-frequency transformer by a high-frequency isolation transformer are commonly used which make the mobile energy storage system more compact and flexible. Figure 4 is a two-stage topology that consists of a single-phase PWM AC-DC converter and a dual-active-bridge (DAB) high-frequency isolated DC-DC converter [58][59][60][61][62]. This topology improves safety and reduces size of the converter.…”

“…Dual-active-bridge isolated bidirectional DC-DC converters (DAB-IBDCs) based on high frequency transformers are the most common topologies for conventional HVCR BDCs [10][11][12]. HVCR can be achieved by adjusting the transformer turns ratio.…”
