Domestic resources such as vegetable oil, animal fats, tallows, and waste frying oil are common raw materials for making biodiesel. In contrast to ordinary diesel, biodiesel helps to reduce CO2 emissions. This study aimed to produce biodiesel using waste frying oil in the presence of suitable solid waste-derived heterogeneous catalysts. Firstly, CaO/K2O catalyst was synthesised using eggshells and banana peels. Then, the pre-prepared catalyst (CaO/K2O) modified with ZnO was utilized for biodiesel production. The prepared catalyst and biodiesel were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and FTIR spectroscopy. The AOAC and ASTM standard methods were employed to analyze the physicochemical properties of oils and biodiesel. The catalytic efficiency of CaO/K2O and CaO/K2O-ZnO tested for the transesterification of purified oil to biodiesel at the catalyst weight (1-7 %wt), temperature (60-80°C), and methanol to oil ratios ranging from 3:1 to 12:1. The highest biodiesel yield (92%) obtained when 5 %wt CaO/K2O catalyst used. However, a 95% yield resulted when using a 3 %wt CaO/K2O-ZnO catalyst load in 2 h with a methanol to oil (v/v) ratio of 9:1 at 65°C. The study revealed that waste frying oil is a good source of biodiesel which could replace nonrenewable energy in the future. The catalysts made from solid waste could also replace an expensive chemical catalyst.

Among the most relevant themes of modernity, using renewable resources to produce biofuels attracts several countries’ attention, constituting a vital part of the global geopolitical chessboard since humanity’s energy needs will grow faster and faster. Fortunately, advances in personal computing associated with free and open-source software production facilitate this work of prospecting and understanding complex scenarios. Thus, for the development of this work, the keywords “biofuel” and “nanocatalyst” were delivered to the Scopus database, which returned 1071 scientific articles. The titles and abstracts of these papers were saved in Research Information Systems (RIS) format and submitted to automatic analysis via the Visualization of Similarities Method implemented in VOSviewer 1.6.18 software. Then, the data extracted from the VOSviewer were processed by software written in Python, which allowed the use of the network data generated by the Visualization of Similarities Method. Thus, it was possible to establish the relationships for the pair between the nodes of all clusters classified by Link Strength Between Items or Terms (LSBI) or by year. Indeed, other associations should arouse particular interest in the readers. However, here, the option was for a numerical criterion. However, all data are freely available, and stakeholders can infer other specific connections directly. Therefore, this innovative approach allowed inferring that the most recent pairs of terms associate the need to produce biofuels from microorganisms’ oils besides cerium oxide nanoparticles to improve the performance of fuel mixtures by reducing the emission of hydrocarbons (HC) and oxides of nitrogen (NOx).

The study intends to assess long-term mitigation strategies for reducing CO2 emissions from internal combustion. The research makes use of well-known academic literature with relevant information, covers arguments, comprehension, findings, conclusions, and suggestions from literature. Concepts of combustion, internal combustion engines (ICEs), benefits of internal combustion, CO2 emission, consequences of CO2 emission on the environment, and CO2 emission mitigating measures were taken into consideration for the evidence gathered in this study. The established, reviewed literature served as the basis, pointing petroleum as the primary source of energy for both industrial and home uses is the ICEs. However, it is also account for greenhouse gas emissions like CO2 and others, which have a direct impact on the world climate, thus strongly urges the advancement of environmental sustainability through the dissemination of fresh scientific findings that will aid in reducing CO2 and other greenhouse gases. The use of electric vehicles and biofuel applications were discussed as alternative to the fossil products. The research finding revealed that the use of internal engine a gasoline (GE) car produces 167g of CO2 gas per kilometer, a diesel vehicle (DE) emits 134g, a hybrid (HEV) emits 145g and an electric vehicle (BEV) emits 114g, according to the life cycle assessment. The use of Coconut B5, B15 fuel gives CO2 raise of 2.54 % B20%,4.64 B100%. While when of Camelina fuel lower 13.8 % of B100 than B20%, thus revealed that biofuel can increase or decrease in emission generation. However, biofuel is considered as an alternative energy source that is currently being researched and applied as fuel in motorized vehicles.
