“…For the 1 S 0 to (nominal) 3 P 1 transition in Yb we can expect that spin dependence may arise through some combination of target-coupling effects (in which exchange with the triplet component of the P state wavefunction takes place) and spin-orbit coupling of the continuum electron (by magnetic interaction with the positively charged atomic core). A further possibility of spin dependence arises through the formation of temporary negative-ion resonances which have been observed, near threshold, in the 3 P 1 optical excitation function measurement by Shimon et al (1981) and in the differential (90 • scattering) excitation function measurements of Kazakov and Khristoforov (1983). At the energies of interest in the present EICP measurements, however, no resonances have been observed.…”

“…Shimon et al (1981) measured optical excitation cross sections for a variety of spectral lines. Kazakov and Khristoforov (1983) measured excitation functions for 90 • scattering in the elastic, 1 P 1 and 3 P 0,1,2 (unresolved) channels identifying a number of strong resonances near threshold. Mandy et al (1993) have presented energy-loss spectra and a threshold excitation spectrum.…”

“…Moreover, many researchers have also studied the Europium (Eu) and Ytterbium (Yb) atoms, which belong to Lanthanide series of periodic table. A specific attention has been paid to the scattering of electrons by these atoms, especially Yb-atom that has been studied theoretically [14][15][16][17][18][19][20] and experimentally [19][20][21]. At the same time, Eu-atom has been studied but there is no data about these atoms.…”
